Opportunities and Process
There are various options available to candidates, including:
- Study Permit of Canada – It is the primary way of studying in Canada with a study permit visa.
- Studying without a Study Permit – Under this program, the student does not require a study permit. It is mainly for the courses whose duration is up to 6 months.
- Getting work while Studying in Canada – The students who need funds get the option to work while pursuing their studies under this program.
- Getting Job After Completion of Studies – The Canadian graduates are eligible to apply for a post-graduation work permit once their studies are completed. The post-graduation work permit allows such individuals to live and work for three years. The individuals gain the Canadian workforce’s knowledge and the relevant work experience to immigrate to Canada permanently if intended. The primary reason that international students opt to study in Canada is for the advantages it brings. Canadian employers are happy to provide job opportunities for the students who have completed their studies in Canada and subsequently get them to obtain the Permanent Resident status.
Responsibilities of an International Student in Canada
Foreign nationals must obtain a Canadian study permit to study in Canada. This process usually involves getting a letter of acceptance from a Canadian school and submitting a study permit application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Once approved for a study permit, all international students in Canada must meet certain conditions for the duration of their studies. An international student with a study permit must:
- Get enrolled at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI);
- Make all the efforts to progress towards completing their program;
- Respect any conditions listed on their study permit.
Student Direct Stream
The Student Direct Stream, or SDS, is a new program meant to make applying for a study visa in Canada faster and more efficient for some international students.
Residents of Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Vietnam are being served by the SDS program.
Eligibility requirements for Canada’s Student Direct Stream
To submit an application for a Canadian study permit through the SDS program, prospective student applicants must:
- Provide a copy of a letter of acceptance from a Canadian Designated Learning Institution (DLI);
- Present a confirmation document for the applicant’s upfront medical exam;
- Prove that they have obtained a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of $10,000
prove that tuition fees for the first year of study are paid; and - Show proof that they either completed studies at a Canadian curriculum high school or show proof of a language test results demonstrating an IELTS score of 6 in English or NCLC 7 for French.
- Submit the application at a Visa Application Centre (VAC).
